McMow Art Glass, Inc.
In 1976, Phil Materio started working for a mid-size local construction company building office condominiums. The contractor, taking architectural inspiration from two historic sources, the historic Boca Raton Hotel designed by Adison Mizner and Louis Comfort Tiffany, used stained glass for windows, light fixtures, and entrance doors in every office.
Phil was hired to oversee the inhouse stained glass studio to replicate Tiffany style-stained glass for each office space. From this was born the love, intrigue, and passion for stained glass creations.
That same year, Shanon Silvestri graduated from Marymount Women’s college in Boca Raton. Shanon, looking for a summer job was hired by Phil to work in the stained glass department of the contractor’s studio. She immediately understood and shared his passion for stained glass and spent all her spare time reading about Tiffany, learning about techniques and went back to school majoring in art.
Phil and Shanon fell in love with stained glass, and each other. In 1977 they started their own company, McMow Art Glass and were married starting a career that has spanned 45 years, 3 children and has earned them national praise for their one-of-a-kind art glass creations.
